Poor Boy!

Hi Friends!

It is a bit of a rainy Sunday here but it has been a peaceful. The one guy that has had a hard time being peaceful is Buster. For several days now he has been itching really bad. I believe it is some sort of allergic dermatitis because he has a hotspot close to his bottom! Poor boy! Anyways I have that spray to help him not itch but it only works some. I am looking into doing some natural remedies for him and so far have come across a few like:

Fish oil tablets
Vitamin E
Wheat germ
Calendula Cream
Bathing him in an oatmeal bath
Aloe
And even seen giving an antihistimine but don't know enough about that to chance it

If anyone has any ideas I would love to hear them. If I come across any specific remedies I will post them for others as well!

I went to the grocery store and bought wheat germ and plan to make homemade dog treats. I have run across a couple different recipes but thought I would research to find out what would work best for Buster!

Hope everyone has a nice evening....

Take care now and God bless...

Nan, What we suggest at the vet clinic for hot spots is shave the hair around the spot, cleanse the area with cool water and diluted baby shampoo, you can then apply burow's solution if your drug store carries it to dry out the spot, or apply a thin layer of hydrocortisone cream. If it doesn't clear up, see your vet, as some dogs need antibiotics to clear them up:)Poor Buster, hope he finds some relief soon!

Nan, we have a dog that has a lot of itching for the past 7 years and she is on steroid shots once each 21 days, and also, in between, the vet says we can give her one to two Benadryl (NOT the ones with anything except the diphehydramine, don't give the ones mixed with acetomenophen, for example) every six hours. She is 100 pounds. He says the Benadryl is very easy on them and not dangerous to give. Can you call your vet and see? Also, she gets omega-3 flaxseed oil tablets each day, the vet did prescribe them but we get them from the store. And, finally, he said to give her 1-2 tablespoons of oil with her food a day. Such as one of the blends of oil. And we rub on Eucerin on any hot spots.
